On November 9, 2008, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the celebration of the 55th Anniversary of Independence at the Independence Monument where His Majesty the King lit the Victory Flame. The ceremony was attended by Samdech Akka Mohathammpothisal Chea Sim, Chairman of the Senate, Samdech Akka Mohaponheachakrey Heng Samrin, Chairman of the National Assembly, Samdech Akka Mohasenapadey Decho Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, members of the Senate, the National Assembly, the Royal Government and the Diplomatic Corps.
